Thornhill Summer Skate: Up and Coming Young Skaters- Junior Dance

The junior dancers were pretty impressive overall.

Their short dance was the Starlight Waltz, which is one of my favourite waltzes.

Most of the short dances were good, though nothing was extraordinarily original. Some were clearly trying for something original, but for the most part they came off as strange conceptually but in the actual choreography they were quite traditional.

Of the 5 couples in both the short and freedance (like the pairs and the senior pairs and dance they were technically separate competitions), Mackenzie Bent and Dmitre Razgulajevs were my favourite and definitely looking about ready to join the senior ranks.

Bent and Razgulajevs had an unfortunate fall in the short dance, but still won the short dance.

The other four couples in the event were also strong, but did not stand out in the same way as Bent and Razgulajevs.

The freedances were good, but both conceptually and choreographically not anything particularly new or special. They are junior skaters and so the concepts though unsurprising, were well executed.
