Thornhill Summer Skate: Up and Coming Young Skaters- Junior Pairs

Honestly, the junior pairs were a little scary, and not in the exciting way that pairs can be.

Almost all of the pairs looked more than a little shaky in their lifts, and their side by side jumps were (as usual) more than a little shaky.

There were only four entries in both the short and freeskate in the junior pairs event. The short and freeskate were technically separate events, as skaters could enter one or the other, they were not required to enter both.

This was one of those events that almost needed to be watched through your fingers. Only one of the couples competing did not have me terribly worried that he was going to drop her on her head. That team was Olivia and Mackenzie Boys-Eddy. They had really strong elements, and were good performers, they were far and away the best couple competing in the event.

Allison Eby and Brett Varley were also strong in their actual performances, but they were more than a little scary in the warmups. They were not far behind Olivia and Mackenzie based on scores, but I spent their entire skates waiting for disaster.

The other two couples, Cassandra Leung and Richard Beauchesne and Colleen Collins and Alexander Brauner also skated better than their warmup would have suggested. However, they were still more than a little scary to watch while they were performing.

Needless to say, the junior pairs event was a little underwhelming, mostly in that I wasn't able to enjoy the event as I was waiting for disaster the entire time.

(unlike most of the events, I didn't take any pictures of the pairs)
