Thornhill Summer Skate: The Seniors- Senior Pairs

The senior pairs event was a little disappointing, not so much in the skating, but in the lack of skaters competing.

There were only three teams registered to compete, but Hayleigh Bell and Rudi Swiegers never showed up to register for either part of the event.

One of the other couples registered, Marin Ono and Wesleu Killing withdrew from the freeskate, which made me extremely happy, because she was skating with two casts on her wrists. Seriously, this girl brings new meaning to the term  "crazy pair girl." They seemed surprisingly steady considering she couldn't really use her hands or wrists, but they still made me insanely nervous. I've always known you have to be a little crazy to be a pair girl, but skaters like Marin Ono bring that to new heights.

Brittany Jones and Josh Reagan were the only couple to compete in both parts of the event, any they were very good. However, it doesn't really benefit them to not have skaters to compete against this early on. It's always good to perform your programs frequently early in the season, but it's also beneficial to see where you stack up against other skaters. They didn't really get to measure themselves against other senior couples. Their short program was very good, but their freeskate was not great. They only executed a single twist, and there was some trouble on their side by side jumps. The exits from some of their lists were rough, but overall they were pretty good. This early in the season expectations were not too high, and so I was not disappointed in their skating.
